I found the above postcard in the Morris bookstore off of Euclid and High St. From the information listed on the postcard, Ingress is apparently a game that you can play on your phone or tablet here in Kentucky. Even though the front of the card says that the community listed here is "Kentucky Enlightened," both the visual representations of buildings such as the 5/3 bank and the horse statue in the forefront from downtown Lexington, which I believe comes from Triangle Park, suggest that the community might be limited to Lexington itself. This would make even more sense, because the back does suggest that it is Central Kentucky.
Apparently, this digital game is one that is centered around your location since it uses a GPS tracking device. Landmarks and the city itself seem to play an important role in the game because of the repitition of the importance of space and the landmarks representing Lexington on the cover. I'm curious to know how space plays into this game. Do you have to be somewhere specific to play or can you play anywhere?
The game itself is called Ingress. Also, there are teams. If I had to guess which team this poster represents , I might guess the team name was "Enlightened." Especially, since you can join the englightened as suggested several times on the front and on the back. The game appears to have to do not only with place, but also with a community of people because you can "expand your social circle." If it does involve meeting people, I wonder if you're solely communicating with a community digitally or if, because you are likely living in the same city, you play with each other in person?
The postcard also uses an excessive amount of green, both on the front cover and on the back. I wonder if the use of green is a representation of their team? There is also a symbol in green repeated on the front and the back. It sort of looks like half of a face with an eye either closed or halfway opened. Since the team name appears to be the Enlightened, and the idea of being enlightened to be knowledgeable or forward thinking, it would make sense that this would be an eye looking towards the light of knowledge perhaps. But I'm still not certain about the symbol exactly. Or even what the team represents.
The postcard also gives information on how to join the game through links and a QR scanner. The links both take me to the same page where I can join the game. But that's another post on another day.
